Nintendo first released the DS (or NDS) in Europe in 2004. It featured built in micropone and WiFi connection to allow gamers to interact with each other. In 2006 the DS was superceded by the DS Lite which is slimmer, smaller and features brighter screens. Two years later in 2008, the DSi was released. This model features more powerful hardware, more RAM and includes an SD Card Slot. A year later came the DSi XL which is much like its predecessor, but features larger screens. As always in this industry things have progressed rapidly, 2011 seeing the release of the Nintendo 3DS which projects "stereoscopic three-dimensional effects", without the use of additional accessories.
