Being a new parent brings with it seismic changes, and being one in London can add extra shakes to the situation. Between trying to navigate public transport, finding places to meet that will tolerate pushchairs and simply locating other parents to socialise with, things can seem tiring even before the sleepless nights. Thankfully there are apps to make everything from nursing to getting around a little less cumbersome.
Nursing Timer
An obvious one to start off the list is a handy helper to keep track of feeding. You can use this to document bottle or boob, and how long you’ve been feeding. If that isn’t enough, the app also tracks naps and has a white noise feature to keep everyone a little more zen.
Hoop
As a new parent it’s important to find time to get out and keep yourself entertained (read: sane). Hoop is a great way to stay in the know about local baby classes. The classes can be sorted by time or locations.
Boxman
With a new baby comes stuff, and we’re talking loads of it. From outgrown clothes to nappies a few sizes too big, it can be really hard to find the space needed for babies living in London. Thankfully, Boxman‘s on-demand self-storage service is here to help. With just a few clicks, new parents can have beautiful blue plastic crates delivered straight to their doorsteps and a few more clicks and they’ll be taken away (after you’ve filled them, of course). They’ll also bring everything back at the click of a button, which helps with the unpredictability of life with a tiny person. Try storing with Boxman for stuff that you will need to have in future months, or perhaps between babies.
Gobaby
A true lifesaver, Gobaby was designed by a new mum to help find the nearest baby changing spots and pram-accessible Tube stations around London. As well as showing which stations have a lift, the app comes with live TFL updates – journey planning sorted. Now all that’s left is getting out of the house (and we acknowledge that that’s not always easy, and no we don’t have an app for it).
St John’s Ambulance First Aid
No matter how calm and collected they are, every new parent can feel overwhelmed by baby safety information. This app is great for putting minds at ease. With baby-related first aid information to hand, new parents can feel a little less flustered when the road gets bumpy.
Wonderweeks
Check what’s going on or what will be going on throughout each week of development. Fair warning – nervous Nancys should probably go easy with this one and just use it as a light reference (not everything will go to plan, and that’s okay).
Deliveroo
A nice meal delivered to your door? We think yes! Deliveroo will be your lifesaver for those days when everything just falls apart. Breathe easy: once in a while London finds a way to make life a little less hectic.
