Moving house with Boxman - Catherine’s experience

We’re always delighted to hear from our customers and last week we caught up with Catherine, who used Boxman recently to help her move house.

So, tell me a little about you, Catherine - are you a born-and-raised Londoner?

Nope. I’m Sydney born and bred.

I moved out here almost two years ago because I’d planned to move in with my best mates from Uni (who’re teachers). I did special needs work for schools for a while and now work for a media network here.

I’ve moved twice and Boxman’s been my saving grace each time.

So did you use Boxman as a kind of moving service?

Yup. Two of my good friends (who lived together) moved house a couple of months before me, used Boxman and just had a really good experience. After doing a bit of research, the storage option and price simplicity had me at hello. When I moved from my first flat, I stayed with friends whilst it was getting sorted, but was kind of in limbo for a month whilst I lived out of a suitcase and found another place, so this just sounded like a much better option – and it was.

It’s a really hard thing, moving between places, isn’t it? So much stress.

Exactly. I’d never had to move myself before that. In Australia, I either had friends or family who could help me move in carloads, so was a little out of my element. Without my mates’ advice I probably would’ve wasted a lot more money.

Can you talk me through your moving day? How did it go?

Not all to plan! I had to cancel the day before the move (I unexpectedly was called into work overtime), but I was able to reschedule without accruing extra charges, something which I’m so grateful for – it’s expensive and stressful enough, without adding penalties!

Phew!

You only get that kind of privilege if you have a crown on your head or blue blood through your veins…

Or if you’re a Boxman customer?!

Exactly!

Anyway, I had the boxes delivered to my place the week before, which gave me tons of time to pack up as I needed. I was a bit worried about moving because I’d hurt my back not long before, and as I live on the first floor was worried about carrying all that stuff up and down, but the guy was nice enough to climb the stairs and drop all the boxes off.

How did they keep in touch with you on the day of the move?

It was really simple: a case of scheduling the pick up. I got a text message a little bit before saying how far away they were and a phone call when they were at the door.

Once I moved into the new place, the delivery guy Josh - aka life’s new best friend - ended up trolleying them up my lift into my lounge and I was so happy with the overall service I made good on my threat to write a review on Trustpilot as he wouldn’t accept any other kind of bribe (and I had no kit-kats nearby to offer gratitude). I applaud that man. I’ll probably end up working for him someday.

That must have been a huge weight off your mind, especially knowing that you had a bad back AND the stress of a move AND a first floor flat…

It really does. Like so many places, London’s a dog-eat-dog kind of place and coupled with the fact I’d just hurt my back, so it’s always nice when you get to experience some humanity!

On the blog we’re all about ‘better living in small spaces’ - any tips?!

I work for a home-shopping network, so I’ve managed to get some good ideas there. I haven’t invested in a whole lot of junk, just really good quality things that make my room feel whole. I love fake peony flowers, scented candles, flameless candles, string-up lights, coloured bunting to hang on the walls and the ceiling and coloured scarves. What’s great about all of those things, is that they’ll all fit into a single bag. Putting up all that stuff makes a room feel instantly less sterile and more homely, personable and warm and it’s the kind of thing you can unpack and put up as soon as you move in.

All good tips – for any move, actually! Thanks so much for chatting with me - I really appreciate your time and I’m so glad Boxman have been such gems for you -

My pleasure. I’d walk over hot coals for how nice they were to me.
